Support for Sports Award 2026 Recipients
The award is presented annually to individuals, businesses, clubs and organizations who have displayed a longterm and significant commitment to supporting amateur sports in Yorkton.
The support can take many forms, including volunteerism, financial or in-kind support, organizational assistance, traditional or new media excellence or other ways that have benefitted sports organizations or athletes.
It also provides an opportunity to recognize those who otherwise do not qualify for induction into the Hall of Fame but are deserving of recognition by the community.

Gina Flett
Gina Erhardt-Flett and her husband Jeff Flett have lived in Yorkton for over 30 years. Gina has always been a fan and participant of sports, especially with her kids Kassandra and MacKenzie in hockey and baseball. Gina has been a part of the sports community in Yorkton since 1994, playing for the ladies fastball team on second base and going on to win provincials with that team. In her earlier years in Yorkton she worked at Sports Traders and that's where her love for helping the sporting community stemmed from.
From 2005 to 2020 Gina and her family billeted players for the Yorkton Terriers and since then her own children have continued to work and or play in sports. In 2009 Gina became the Executive Director of Yorkton Minor Hockey and worked closely with board members that were also involved in Yorkton Minor Baseball. After the first two seasons with hockey she establishing an office with regular hours, started online registration, scheduled ice times and assigned officials. Those board members thought she would be a good fit for baseball and in 2011 she became the Executive Director of Yorkton Minor Baseball and is still there today.
In the 15 years Gina has been with Minor Ball she has been in charge of registering players and coaches with BaseballSask, scheduling diamonds for games and practices, organizing coaching and umpire clinics and organizing off season indoor ball sessions for players. She houses the baseball office in with her own business at a convenient locating downtown. She maintains the website, answers the phone, sends and receives emails from parents and players along with numerous other administration duties.
Yorkton Minor Baseball has grown a lot since Gina has started, from just over 100 players to close to 300 now. Over the years board members have come and gone as their kids grow up and leave baseball, but Gina has stayed involved long after her children have grown up and aged out of minor sports for the sake of keeping a physical office location for people to call or visit if they have questions, concerns or interest in the sport.
She also has always encouraged others to be involved in the associations, whether for umpiring, reffing or coaching. Some of them have even gone on to Nationals in baseball, the NHL and the Olympics. She was a big part of the start of the new batting cages at Jubilee ball park which are now fully operational and available to the public.
Mike Jakubiec
Michael is the Technical Director of Yorkton United FC soccer and a major reason for the successes and growth that the organization has enjoyed in recent years.
While Mike officially holds the simple title of Technical Director, you can also add the titles of coach, mentor, supervisor, equipment manager, grass-cutter, net mover, bathroom cleaner, and more to his title as he works tirelessly for the support of our club and the sport of soccer.
The sport of soccer is seeing tremendous growth worldwide, but especially in Canada, due to the recent hosting of the World Cup of Soccer. The Yorkton United FC club has benefitted directly with increased enrollment and interest by athletes of all ages.
As the sport continues to grow, the local club will be a major benefactor with new athletes thanks to the programming in place, led by its technical director.
While visiting the soccer fields to watch or play the game, people are almost convinced that Mike lives at the outdoor fields or the Gallagher Centre Flexi-Hall as he is always there to lend his support to the athletes and coaches.
The vision statement of the Yorkton United FC is to improve the community by growing the sport of soccer, developing positive leaders, and cultivating a love of sport for all involved. Thanks to Mike’s leadership, the Yorkton United FC is well on its way to achieving its vision, if not there already. This is exemplified in the well-conditioned soccer fields and the recent establishment of the new state of the art Clubhouse field. This is exemplified in the growth of the number of athletes learning about the game of soccer and the retention of athletes, who not only register for one season, but move from the gym in winter to the fields in spring and fall, and keep coming back to the Club year after year.
As technical director, Mike leads the programming that support the athletes in practice methodologies, scrimmage and game-day experiences, and tournament competitions, both at home and away from Yorkton. That support goes beyond only the athletes, but to coaches and officials, as well as parents.
